BASE ISOLATION SYSTEMS

The Santa Clara Valley Chapter of The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) would like to extend an invitation for you to join them on Thursday, October 3 rd , 2002.   Come to enjoy dinner and a program about how base isolation systems can reduce the effect of a Richter 8.0 earthquake to a moderate 5.5 event.

Dr. Ron Mayes of Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, Inc. will explain why base isolation technology should be considered, how it works and how it can economically offer greater protection of lives, buildings and their contents.  Most importantly base isolation technology provides the ability of a building to be fully operational after a major earthquake.  Ron’s presentation will use examples of new and retrofit construction to illustrate how to incorporate the technology into new and existing buildings.  He will also address the cost/benefit issues from an Owner’s perspective.
